Construction

MV cables feature a robust layered design for optimal performance:

1. Conductor: High-purity copper or aluminum (stranded/solid) per IEC 60228.

2. Conductor Screen: Semiconducting layer to minimize electric field stress.

3. Insulation: Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) or ethylene propylene rubber (EPR) for thermal stability.

4. Insulation Screen: Semiconducting layer to ensure uniform voltage distribution.

5. Metallic Shield: Copper wire/tape or aluminum armor for grounding and fault protection.

6. Outer Sheath: PVC, LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen), or HDPE for mechanical and environmental protection.

- Voltage Rating: 1 kV to 36 kV (U0/U: 0.6/1 kV to 26/36 kV).

- Temperature Range:

- Normal Operation: -40°C to +90°C (XLPE), -50°C to +105°C (EPR).

- Short-Circuit: Up to +250°C (XLPE), +250°C (EPR).

- Current Carrying Capacity: Varies with conductor size (e.g., 240 mm² to 1000 mm²).

- Bending Radius: 12–20× cable diameter (depends on construction).
