Select the cable according to the system voltage and grounding method. U₀ is the rated power-frequency voltage between conductor and screen; U is the rated voltage between conductors. The maximum system voltage Um must not exceed the cable’s specified value.
| System Nominal Voltage | Cable Rated Voltage U₀/U | Maximum System Voltage Um |
|---|---|---|
| 6 kV | 3.6/6 kV | 7.2 kV |
| 10 kV | 6/10 kV | 12 kV |
| 15 kV | 8.7/15 kV | 17.5 kV |
| 20 kV | 12/20 kV | 24 kV |
| 30 kV | 18/30 kV | 36 kV |
| 35 kV | 26/35 kV | 42 kV |
For ungrounded or resonant-grounded systems, select a higher U₀ rating. For effectively grounded systems, the standard U₀/U rating is usually sufficient.
Copper: Higher conductivity, better short-circuit performance, suitable for critical circuits and limited installation space.
Aluminium: Lower weight and cost, suitable for long routes where weight and budget are priorities.
Cross-section: Determine by load current, short-circuit current, voltage drop, ambient temperature, soil thermal resistivity, and grouping factor. Typical medium voltage range: 25–630 mm².
Single-core: Used in three-phase systems with separate cables per phase, often in ducts or trays.
Three-core: Used for direct distribution and fixed installations where one cable carries all three phases. Common for 3.6/6kV to 26/35kV.
Multi-core: Available for specific control or auxiliary applications.
XLPE insulation allows a continuous conductor temperature of 90°C and a short-circuit temperature of 250°C for up to 5 seconds. Insulation thickness is specified by IEC 60502-2 according to voltage rating.
PVC sheathing: General purpose, flame-retardant, cost-effective. Suitable for indoor, duct, and trench installations.
PE sheathing: Better moisture resistance, preferred for direct burial and wet locations.
LSZH sheathing: Low smoke and halogen-free, for tunnels, indoor substations, and public infrastructure.
This product uses PVC sheathing. Confirm whether PVC is acceptable for the project fire and environmental requirements.
Indoor: Cable trays, ducts, switchgear rooms, and substations.
Trenches and cable ducts: PVC sheath provides protection during pulling and against subsequent damage.
Direct burial: Not recommended without additional mechanical protection. Use armoured cable or conduit.
Vertical shafts: Confirm pulling tension and support spacing.
Tunnels and public areas: Check fire performance requirements; LSZH may be required.
Minimum bending radius is typically 12–15 times the cable outer diameter for static installation and 20 times during pulling. Select drum length according to route length, number of joints, transport limits, and installation method.
Specify the applicable standard: IEC 60502-2, GB/T 12706.2, BS 6622, VDE 0276-620, or project-specific requirements.
